Chemical Inventory
The chemical inventory is a list that should contain every hazardous chemical used in the company. The company
has the responsibility to maintain this list. Employees have the responsibility of informing the company regarding
any chemical discovered in the work place that is not listed on the inventory.
This list should be available to employees
for review during all working hours. It should be kept in a location accessible to employees. At SST the chemical
inventory is kept in the HazCom binder located in the employee break room.
This binder also contains
a copy of the HazCom standard and all SDS for chemicals used in our operations. In addition
to being available in the HazCom binder, SDSs are also available on the company web site.
Safety Data Sheets
SDS are pages of written or printed information relating to the chemical they represent. These
sheets are prepared by the chemical manufacturer or importer. Typically, SDS’s must accompany a shipment of any hazardous
materials.
Sometimes they are sent via USPS preceding the shipment. Other times they may be faxed or emailed.
To assure that the appropriate information is available in case of a spill or accident, each SST vehicle is assigned
a copy of the Emergency Response Guide Book (ERG). This book contains generic information regarding specific chemicals
and can be used for small to large spills. Here is a picture of a typical ERG.
