Written Plan
The OSHA HazCom Standard requires that a company plan document:
- The method used by the company to determine which chemicals are hazardous:
- SST has determined that any chemical that displays any type of hazard warning is a hazardous chemical
for purposes of HazCom and chemical training. These warnings can be disclosed through words,
pictures or pictograms.
- The company’s labeling system:
- SST does not produce chemicals and, therefore, does not produce chemical labeling. All hazardous materials
shipments must be rendered for transportation with the appropriate labels (and placards, if applicable) applied.
Labels and placards must follow DOT regulations.
- How safety data sheets are obtained/kept:
- Safety Data Sheets are acquired when the chemical is first purchased or placed into service. If the
sheets are not available directly from the provider, SST obtains them through 3E Corporation before the chemical
is placed into service.
- Responsible persons for labeling, SDS collection and inventory list:
- The responsibility for obtaining and maintain safety data sheets and the chemical inventory,
maintaining the HazCom program and providing training to employees lies with the SST safety director.
- How hazardous chemical training is done:
- Initial training in the standard is accomplished on the employee’s first day of work during new
employee orientation and on-the-job with chemicals specific to the employee job. Periodic re-training is
provided when new chemicals are introduced into the work place, when a covered employee’s job is modified or if
an employee is re-assigned to a position that requires chemical training. Additional training is provided on
the company web site for individual review.
