NFPA Labeling System

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) produced the NFPA label system as an aid for fire-fighters responding to chemical fires. The purpose is to help determine quickly what hazards are presented by the burning materials and what would be the best suppression agents to use.

This label system uses the same color coding as the HMIS system with the exception that the White area is for extinguishing agent information rather than PPE information. An example of this label system is shown below.
